Strong Woman
by Rochelle M. Bowman
To all the lovely ladies
Who brighten the day
Remember you are special
No matter what they say.
Keep up the fight we lead
To receive the care we should.
Don’t let your pain slow you
Even though you know it could.
We suffer through the common
And we try to get out of bed
Even though “the pain isn’t real”
And “it’s all in our head.”
Remember….We are Strong Women
This sure as hell
Isn’t a pain I should ignore
Or one that will go away.
This pain is deep into my core.
I will not let the pain win.
I will not passively sit by.
I know it isn’t in my head.
I do not “need a cry.”
Listen carefully doctors
The situation is dire.
I demand the proper treatment
For this pain that’s made of fire.
Remember….I am a Strong Woman
Women of the world unite.
Show the world we are strong.
Ban together for a better life
And prove that they were wrong.
Our pain is just as real.
Our pain is just as bad.
As the boy who broke his arm
And the man who bumped his head.
This ache doesn’t go away
And the stabbing doesn’t subside
Because I’m not as “strong as a man”
I like to talk and confide.
The fire that burns my leg.
The migraine that sends me spinning.
The muscle cramps and sore joints
Was not what I was planning.
But that is what I was dealt
And I will accept it with my head held high.
And I will go down fighting
If this is how I should die.
REMEMBER… I AM A STRONG WOMAN.
