Having been a longtime advocate of better care for CRPS/RSD sufferers in the Emergency Department, I accidentally had a partial muscle tear in my left shoulder the day after Thanksgiving. As I have said before, if a woman goes alone, she is often sent away receiving no relief.
One of my best friends who works for a major airline and can travel free, actually flew out to take me to the ED. Because I had a man with me, I was actually admitted for a week. Not only for tests, that included an MRI showing the partial muscle tear, but pain management as well.
We have to do more to educate ED physicians and staff about not only CRPS/RSD, but all pain problems women experience. I am still working on getting my organization off the ground to educate Emergency Departments about the severe pain of these debilitating diseases.
