For Grace was pleased to sign on to a HealthyWomen drafted letter that encourages the FDA and NIH to continue supporting the development of new, individualized approaches for treating pain, particularly non-opioid medicines, and continue working to implement provisions of the SUPPORT ACT. Improving individualized treatment of pain - as well as preventing and treating opioid use disorder - is an area that HealthyWomen continues to be engaged with and believes is important for the entire health care system.
Check out For Grace's May Story of the Month as we continue our 2020 focus on the connection between chronic pain and cancer. Jenny Picciotto was looking forward to retirement with days full of interests and time with her husband. Then a foot injury lead to CRPS, and her life became a full-time search to regain wholeness. Just when acceptance and cognitive-reframing brought relief, a diagnosis of breast cancer started a new chapter of challenge. Still, Jenny encourages all to "experience the incredible beauty and tender frailty of this terrific and terrifying journey called life."
Early childhood trauma often sparks problems later in life, which can include high-impact chronic pain. Author Maria Socolof in her memoir, "The Invisible Key: Unlocking the Mystery of My Chronic Pain", shares her journey from a successful, satisfying life with family and work to the depths of a mysterious pain disorder that derailed her. As Maria examines what went wrong, she uncovers a hidden key that provides answers and salvation. For Grace founder Cynthia Toussaint consulted and lends the cover endorsement to this powerful story.
